KUBS Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the Korea University Business School.
This is Professor Jae Wook Kim, the Dean of Korea University Business School (hereinafter KUBS).
KUBS is the only college that walked through Korea University’s 113 years of history. Established as the College of Commerce in 1905, KUBS is the very first department that has been a pioneer of the business studies in Korea. It is one of the most important colleges at Korea University with its longstanding history. KUBS first adopted modern business studies to tertiary education in Korea. In fact, KUBS commenced Korea’s first ‘Business Economics’ course in 1937, followed by the establishment of ‘Department of Business Administration’ in 1955, and the foundation of the first graduate school of business in 1963. Not surprisingly, KUBS has been acknowledged for our modern facilities with the unique cultural history behind. KUBS has ‘KUBS Main Building’: the first university facility that is reserved for the School’s exclusive use, and ‘LG-POSCO Building’: Korea’s first university building that was entirely financed by alumni’s donation. Furthermore, ‘Hyundai Motor Hall’ at KUBS is one of the best-designed university buildings in the world, which is also recognized for its record of the largest number of donors of 3,600.
When I think about the priceless contributions that our alumni had been made to Korea’s economic and social development, I feel a heavy responsibility rests on me. Nonetheless, I will ensure that the overall operation of the administrative procedure at the School is ‘demand-based’, for the sake of personal development and happiness of KUBS’s each and every member. Above all, I understand that demand for the School is derived from current undergraduate students, graduate∙MBA program and non-degree program candidates, faculty members, and administrative staffs. As the Dean, I will thoroughly consider and plan about how KUBS can offer the best experience possible to our students and staffs. I am fully aware that it is my number one mission to support the personal growth of our members and encourage their step further. Moreover, another important demand for KUBS comes from current high school students. I am confident that KUBS is ready to provide the best academic curriculum in addition to extracurricular programs for future students. KUBS will never stop questioning the role of the tertiary institution for the future generation and where KUBS should be heading.
Korea’s first and the best business school, KUBS has grown up further towards the world’s best. In fact, in the ‘World University Rankings 2019’ released by the U.S. Report & World Report in the U.S.A., KUBS was placed the top for the third consecutive years in the business and economics subjects. That was 11th in Asia, 98th in the world. In addition, management subject at KUBS was ranked 47th, and accounting and finance subjects at KUBS were ranked 46th in the world by the ‘QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings 2018’. As the rankings represent, KUBS is the best private university in Korea that offers the best learning experience.
Not to mention our executive MBA program is also recognized as the top in Korea for the eighth consecutive years, the world’s 38th in ‘the World’s top 100 Executive MBA Rankings’ by the Financial Times, UK. In addition, the School’s exceptional performance is also acknowledged by the Korea Economic Daily Business, where HR managers at Korea’s 300 major companies responded for the sixth consecutive years that MBA at KUBS is the best among other MBA programs offered in Korea.
KUBS is committed to our mission: “Business for Society - Inspiring Next Leaders” along with our vision: “World-class Knowledge Hub in Business”. I am confident that KUBS will be one of the world’s leading business schools. Our students will be equipped with business knowledge and skills to be global leaders who open a new chapter of the society. KUBS will be the key institution where new ideas in business studies emerge. With that in mind, KUBS aims further than ‘Korea’s best business school’. We are heading to our next goal: “Global Top 30, Asia No.1 by 2030”. On behalf of the School, I would like to ask for your continuous interest and warm support to KUBS. Thank you.
